Summer Gutter Maintenance (Continued)

May 23, 2017

As we have said before, summer is the perfect time to get down to business when it comes to the wellbeing of your gutters. The rains have slowed down, and the weather is perfect for taking a closer look at what your gutters may need in order to be ready to handle the next three seasons. In our previous blog, we mentioned that you should remove the debris from your gutters to keep them clear. You should also take a look at any nests that may be nearby to see if you can remove them safely. Clean off your gutters by using a soap or abrasive brush, and check for any rust damage and holes. Today, we would like to share three more things you should do for your Nashville gutters before the end of summer comes.

Repair Leaks

Once your gutters have been thoroughly cleaned and all problems are properly exposed, it’s time to check for leaks. Look carefully both inside and outside of your gutters to see if you can spot any buckling areas or any visible holes. Feel free to run some water through the gutters to find any smaller leaks that you might not be able to see otherwise. If you find a leak, give us a call to repair it!

Check Your Roof

Your gutters are only as good as the roof guiding the water and runoff into them. While you’re up on the ladder and cleaning those gutter, you might as well take a look at the current state of your roof! There may be loose shingles allowing leaks to gather water, or there could be granules from the shingles sitting in the gutters. Regardless, these two items should work together to protect your home. If you can’t patch up any areas that need repair, or if you think it’s finally time to get a roofing replacement, feel free to contact us at Sparks Roofing to take a look and provide you with a free estimate.

Install New Equipment

Sometimes, cleaning your gutters might not be enough. Time, the sun’s harmful UV rays, the rain, and other precipitation can wear down on both your roof and your gutters. Since the summer has less rain and winds than the rest of the year, this is the perfect time to handle any long term gutter maintenance projects. This includes the installation of the new gutters! If you need new gutters or downspouts, then now is the time. You can also install gutter guards to prevent further damage from happening once the fall months roll around.
